BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Theresa C. Novak, M.Ed., PCC-S, CWC

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JOIN THE BOARD?
For the past several years my career path has been to provide mental health services to medical students, understanding the challenges they face and the sacrifices they make to pursue medicine. Learning about OhioPHP and the care they provide its clients resonated with my personal passion for those in the medical profession. I love how OhioPHP supports professionals on the road to healthy living.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR?
The privilege of walking with someone through their pain to the place of discovering that they indeed hold the power to change themselves and their situation.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Experiencing new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, travel-everything that reminds me to live life!
WHAT WOULD PEOPLE BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Those that know me know that I’m not the athletic type. A few years ago I took up fencing for a while and checked it off my bucket list. I liked it! It’s a great sport and workout.
WHAT IS AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION THAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW?
Sometimes mental illness is not so obvious. More than 65% of those with a mental illness will still lead a normal, productive life.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES OhioPHP SPECIAL?
The dedicated staff of OhioPHP who go above and beyond for our clients without hesitation to get each person back to their healthiest place.
HOW HAS OhioPHP IMPACTED YOUR WORK AND/OR WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BENEFIT FROM YOUR INVOLVEMENT?
I feel proud to be a part of this organization because I get to work with a group of bright individuals that care as I do for the well-being of other professionals. In my work with medical students I am committed to bringing a representative of OhioPHP to present to them annually so they learn early on as they prepare for their career, that OhioPHP has their back and will fight for them to keep the rights and privileges they worked hard for to become a physician.
